Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies Summer Research Grant

SUMMER RESEARCH GRANTS
APPLICATION DEADLINE: EARLY FEBRUARY 2020

The Fairbank Center offers grants to support graduate student summer research in or relating to China and Taiwan. The competition is open to graduate students from all schools at Harvard at all stages of their academic careers. Grants generally will not exceed $3,000. Recipients are required to submit, upon their return, a brief report on their work over the summer. Please submit all application materials via CARAT and follow the instructions carefully.

Please apply to all funding sources that could cover your request and note on your application that you have done so. This will not hurt your chances of being selected for this grant, but it will increase your chances of being co-funded.

TAIWAN STUDY GRANTS
APPLICATION DEADLINES: AUGUST 15, 2019; NOVEMBER 15, 2019; JANUARY 15, 2020

The Fairbank Center offers travel grants to support Harvard University graduate students to study in Taiwan for research at an academic institution, independent research, or attendance at academic meetings.

Preference is given to projects that study post-1949 Taiwan in the humanities and social sciences, and in some cases research on imperial China. Most grants will be limited to support for roundtrip airfare. Please apply through CARAT. Follow the instructions and upload your materials there. Please note that the January deadline is for Taiwan study during the spring semester.
