Student Employment, Research and Funding Opportunities
Sociology concentrators are competitive for many employment, research, and funding positions available through other departments and offices at Harvard. The following are a list of programs that Sociology students regularly participant in and offices that assist students with finding programs:
BLISS – Behavioral Laboratory in the Social Sciences - The Harvard College BLISS program is a summer residential program for Harvard undergraduates designed to provide a formative and substantive social science research experience and to promote community, creativity, and academic excellence. BLISS provides housing and board, a stipend for expenses, and coverage of summer savings obligations for financial aid recipients; it also provides academic and professional development programming for the student fellows. Faculty project descriptions are posted on this website in January, and the student applications are due in mid-February.
Fellows at the Forefront: Climate Change & the Environment - This innovative summer program brings together students, scholars, practitioners, and activists to address urgent issues related to climate change. Students spend 10 weeks working with community partners or participating in faculty-led research projects, complemented by weekly workshops led by Sociology Professor Jason Beckfield. The program fosters collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to tackling environmental challenges and is offered in collaboration with the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability and the Johnson Climate Fund.
Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association -Undergraduate organization that posts opportunities including conferences and publishing.
Harvard Radcliffe Institute: Radcliffe Research Partnership Opportunities - Paid research assistantships working with Radcliffe fellows. Positions are typically announced during the summer (June and July) for year-long assistantships.
HCRP: Harvard College Research Program - A database of research funds and opportunities across Harvard.
IQSS Undergraduate Research Scholars - The IQSS Undergraduate Research Scholars program is an opportunity for Harvard College students to gain first-hand research experience working with faculty members all across the University. These opportunities are paid.
Mignone Center for Student Success - The Mignone Center for Career Success welcomes students from all Harvard College concentrations, and offers a wide range of services and resources tailored specifically to internships, summer opportunities, and entry-level jobs for Harvard College students and recent alumni.
Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships - The Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships (URAF) serves Harvard College students as well as faculty and administrators across the university as the primary source of information about undergraduate research and prestigious scholarships at Harvard and beyond.
PRIMO: Program for Research in Markets and Organizations - A 10-week summer program for undergraduates who wish to work closely with Harvard Business School faculty on research projects on topics ranging from business strategy to social media, and from innovation management to private equity. Applications open in December for the following summer.
Summer Funding Office at MCS - Office that supports students in finding and funding summer opportunities in the United States and abroad.
