Joseph Wallerstein
Joseph Wallerstein received his PhD in Sociology from Harvard University in 2024. He studies homelessness and housing, nonprofits and philanthropy, and organizational behavior. Currently, he is working on a book and articles based on his dissertation, a study of leadership in the nonprofit homeless services field. Drawing on over 150 interviews and an original corpus of documents, the dissertation provides novel insight into how, and to what extent, nonprofit leaders’ ideological stances (specifically about the causes to which homelessness is attributable) influence their organizations’ administrative and programmatic decision making. Joseph’s earlier work has been published in Qualitative Sociology, Theory & Society, Ethnography, and Journal of Organizational Ethnography.
