Sarah J Halford received her PhD from Brandeis University in 2024. She studies social movements, culture, and media, with special interests in mis/disinformation, institutional distrust, conspiracy theories, and online movements. Her research explores the role of institutional distrust in recruitment to, and sustained participation in, fringe movements and online communities that espouse radical beliefs, such as conspiracy theories. She is a qualitative researcher who specializes in digital ethnography. Her work has been published in The Sociological Quarterly, Global Public Health, and through the Center for Artistic Activism.
