Richard Mora is an Associate Professor of Sociology (affiliated with the Latino/a & Latin American Studies) at Occidental College. He received a B.A. with high honors in Sociology from Harvard College. He also holds a M.A. in Education from the University of Michigan, an M.A. in Sociology from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy from Harvard University. Professor Mora's areas of research interest include masculinity, schooling, and juvenile justice. His scholarship has been published in Journal of Educational Controversy, Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education, Perspectives on Urban Education, Gender and Education, Gender & Society, THYMOS: Journal of Boyhood Studies, and included in numerous edited volumes. Professor Mora is on the Editorial Board of Gender & Society. He is currently working on a book monograph on the masculine aspirations of Latino boys, and will soon begin research on youth who are tried as adults. Professor Mora teaches courses on the youth cultures, immigrant youth, the sociology of violence, social inequalities, and the sociology of education. He is the 2014 recipient of Occidental College's Linda and Tod White Teaching Prize.
