Research Interests: Housing, inequality, urban poverty, education, social movements, sociology of citizenship
Matthew Brooke is a Doctoral Student in Sociology. He graduated from Oberlin College, majoring in Latin American Studies. Before coming to Harvard, he worked for seven years in homeless services at the largest family shelter in Philadelphia. He has also worked as a journalist in Central America.
He is interested in how housing instability affects educational attainment and neighborhood schools and, more broadly, in the connections between economic security and the claims of citizenship.
