Research Interests: Social Stratification, Causal Inference, Education, Family Demography

Jen-Chen Chao is a PhD student in Sociology at Harvard University. He received both his BA and MA in sociology from National Taiwan University. Jen-Chen is broadly interested in how social inequality persists within and across generations, with a particular interest in the roles of educational institutions and demographic changes. For his graduate studies, Jen-Chen plans to further analyze the various mechanisms that schools equalize or differentiate students, and how these mechanisms contribute to overall racial, gender, and socioeconomic disparities in outcomes such as adult income and marriage patterns. He is also eager to develop advanced causal inference techniques that can uncover patterns of selection and heterogeneous effects.
