Helen Zhou
Research Interests: Sociology of education, inequality and stratification, segregation, urban sociology, social mobility, race and ethnicity, quantitative and mixed methods
Helen Zhou is a PhD Student in Sociology. She is interested in education, inequality, and the conditions that enable education to have broader and more equitable effects on students’ lives within and beyond school walls.
Helen worked as a Research and Policy Associate at Innovate Public Schools, where she used data and research to help parent leaders in California mobilize and build campaigns around issues like pandemic-induced learning loss and language equity. Most recently, she worked as a Research Associate at the Stanford Graduate School of Education and conducted research in partnership with school districts on educational solutions that aim to improve student and educator outcomes.
