Hannah Craig is a PhD student in Sociology at Harvard. Originally from the metro Detroit area, she received her BA with high honors in political science and creative writing from the University of Michigan.

Hannah is largely interested in conducting research on the impact of discretion on outcomes and security in prisons. Specifically, she is working on a project using administrative data to investigate the relationship security classification assigned in prisons by correctional officers and the amount of discretion the officers, as street-level bureaucrats, have. Findings from this project have the potential of speaking to other public/government and organizational settings beyond prisons, and how the level of discretion individuals working in front-lines bureaucratic positions results in potentially more or less efficient outcomes. By identifying what role discretion plays in these situations, this study is positioned to help inform policy or procedural decisions across relevant contexts.
