Aimee Choi
Hi! I'm a senior in Winthrop House double concentrating in Sociology and Government. I was born in San Francisco but grew up in Seoul, South Korea. My interests include gender, family, and the intersection between law and society. As a pre-law student, I’m especially interested in how international law addresses historical injustices and systematic gender-based violence.
My main involvements on campus include PBHA's Small Claims Advisory Service and the Korean International Students' Association. In my free time, I enjoy pilates, cafe-hopping, piano, and photography. I am happy to talk about anything ranging from academics and pre-law things to college life more broadly :)
Why Sociology?
I took my first sociology course, “Social Change in Modern Korea,” in my freshman spring. It showed me how a sociological lens challenges us to question our assumptions about society and to understand the structural roots of many social problems today. Since then, I've taken courses on topics like organizational culture, global inequality, and the care crisis, all of which bridged structural phenomena with micro-level lived experiences. The combination of breadth and depth in the field is what ultimately drew me.
