Lauren Jiggets
Lauren M. Jiggetts, ‘03
Starting in January 2007, I will join NBC Chicago (WMAQ-TV) as a general assignment reporter. Prior to joining NBC 5, I worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for Boston's CW for 2 years. While in Boston, I covered a wide range of hard and soft news stories from the Red Sox to violence in the city. After graduating from Harvard, I took a job as an anchor/reporter for the award-winning "Channel One News" in Los Angeles.; I traveled the nation, covering events at the United Nations, the Super Bowl, Hurricane Isabel and the California Wildfires. I began my broadcasting career in the public affairs office at MTV in NYC as a summer fellow representing Harvard University's Institute of Politics. I worked on their Emmy award-winning anti-discrimination campaign: Fight For Your Rights.
I graduated Cum Laude in Sociology with a citation in Spanish.
I concentrated in English and American Literature, but transferred to Sociology my Junior year, after taking Social Analysis 54: American Society and Public Policy. I remember listening to lectures from Professor Waters and Professor Skocpol and realizing that sociology was fascinating and that I could practically apply the lectures, books and papers to my planned career path. I call on my knowledge of deviance, race relations and public policy nearly every day while covering stories.
