Thijs van Dooremalen
Thijs van Dooremalen is a Visiting Scholar in the Sociology Department (Spring 2022) and a research affiliate of the Weatherhead Research Cluster on Inequality and Inclusion (2020-2022). In 2019, Thijs obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam for his thesis The Framing of 9/11 in the American, French, and Dutch Public Spheres (2001–2015). A Contribution to the Sociology of Events. He studied Sociology at Utrecht University, the University of Mannheim and the University of Amsterdam. As part of his PhD training, Thijs spent research time at Washington University St. Louis, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris Campus) and the Graduate Center of City University New York. He is currently turning his PhD thesis into a book and applying the theoretical ideas and methodological tools he developed in this thesis to new event cases (such as COVID-19 and the climate crisis).
