Laura Thomas manages the undergraduate program in Sociology, which comprises over 200 students. She is responsible for ensuring that undergraduate concentrators are in good standing and making progress toward satisfying degree requirements, liaising with faculty and the department chair regarding the curriculum and timing of courses offered through the department, and managing the senior thesis writing process in the department, including overseeing two dozen faculty and graduate student thesis advisers. She also manages the department's Concentration Advisers. In addition, Laura sits on the Committee on Undergraduate Degrees, which governs the undergraduate program.
Laura has held many administrative positions at Harvard, where she has worked closely with students, faculty, staff, and senior university managers and Deans. Prior to coming to Harvard, Laura worked at Mount Holyoke College managing campus parking services and event logistics, and at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in the graduate chemistry department.
Laura graduated summa cum laude from Bay Path College, earning her BA in Liberal Studies (Psychology).
Laura hails from Western Massachusetts. She has lived in the eastern part of the state for the past fifteen years, and can (on occasion) be seen rooting for the Red Sox even though she spent years as a die-hard Yankees fan.
