Jonathan Jan Benjamin Mijs
Jonathan Jan Benjamin Mijs is Assistant Professorial Research Fellow in Ethnicity, Race and Equity at the International Inequalities Institute, London School of Economics. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University (2017).
Jonathan's work is on how (young) citizens learn about social inequality, and how they come to explain setbacks and success in their own life and that of others. His interest more broadly is in the interplay between the structural and agentic forces that together shape the course of people’s lives. In previous work, he has studied such processes in schools and educational policy, criminal justice, and urban settings.
During the 2019-20 academic year, Dr. Mijs will offer two undergraduate courses: a lecture course on Social Inequality (fall term) and a seminar on Meritocracy (spring term).
