 Irene Bloemraad (Ph.D. Harvard; M.A. McGill) is Professor of Sociology and the Thomas Garden Barnes Chair of [Canadian Studies ](http://canada.berkeley.edu/)at Berkeley. She is also the founding Director of the [Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative](https://bimi.berkeley.edu/), and holds the position of Senior Fellow with the [Canadian Institute for Advanced Research](https://www.cifar.ca/research/fellows-advisors). In 2014-15, she served as a member of the [U.S. National Academies of Sciences committee ](http://www8.nationalacademies.org/cp/committeeview.aspx?key=49598)reporting on the integration of immigrants into American society.
