Her research takes a demographic approach toward investigating how patterns of social inequality are produced and reproduced. Her work has focused on the relationships among socioeconomic inequality, mobility, and insecurity; the historical evolution of racial inequalities in the family and economy; and statistical methods for characterizing population heterogeneity. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy and an A.M. in Statistics from Harvard University.
