Executive Director [**Dorinda (Dinda) Elliott**](https://fairbank.fas.harvard.edu/person/dorinda-elliott/) discussed with Professor Lei the motivation behind her research and unpacked exactly what the phrase “gilded cage” means—as well as its future implications for China’s political economy.
