Hilary Holbrow joins the Undergrad Program

Hilary Holbrow has joined the Harvard Sociology as Interim Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies, effective August 1. Prior to her appointment Holbrow (Ph.D. 2017, Cornell University) was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, in the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations. Her research interests include organizations, work, migration, East Asian societies, and stratification. She specializes in untangling how culture and organizational practices interact in workplaces and labor markets to reproduce, exacerbate, or mitigate economic inequality. Holbrow’s work appears in International Migration Review, Work and Occupations, and Daedalus, among other outlets, and has received funding and recognition from the Fulbright Commission, the Japan Foundation, and the National Science Foundation. Her teaching experience, including courses on Schooling and Society and Introduction to Sociology at Cornell, position her well to work with Director of Undergraduate Studies, Jocelyn Viterna, and Undergraduate Program Administrator, Laura Thomas, on managing Sociology’s thriving undergraduate program.
