Active learning closes distance between instructor, student

In the first of three symposia on teaching and learning, Christopher Winship (pictured), Diane Paulus, and David Malan, instructors from three very different corners of the curriculum and faculty, discussed methods of engaging students through “Activity-Based Learning.”  In his course on “Reinventing Boston,” Winship encourages students to break out of the “Harvard Square bubble” by having them work on projects that use Boston neighborhoods as living subjects for field research, interviews, and demographic analysis. The symposia is part of the Conversations @ FAS series. Don't Just Sit There: Active learning closes the distance between instructor, student, Harvard Gazette, February 15, 2011.
