# SOC 3316 Politics and Social Change The Politics and Social Change Workshop facilitates the creation of an enduring, collaborative, and intellectually generative research community to investigate how politics shape social patterns in societies around the world. We define ‘politics’ broadly to include everything from politics within the household, to national domestic politics, to state politics within a transnational system. We meet every other week across the entire academic year. The goals of the workshop are to improve participants’ individual-level research projects, facilitate participants’ collaborative projects, and develop participants’ professional insights and policy-oriented expertise. To achieve these goals, we alternate between four types of activities: 1) hosting outside speakers, 2) providing feedback on graduate student or post-doctoral works, 3) professionalization sessions, and 4) collaborative discussions on cutting-edge research. The workshop is open to graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and visiting scholars across Harvard. Students enrolling for graduate credit must attend every session and present their research at one session. Undergraduates are not eligible to enroll in this workshop for credit, but may attend with instructor permission. The course meeting schedule is below.
