The Department of Sociology at Harvard strives to be a place that is welcoming and inclusive for people from a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds. As we highlight in our [community statement](/community): “The Department of Sociology reaffirms its unambiguous commitment to ensuring all affiliates may pursue their learning, research, scholarship, and work in an environment free from discrimination and harassment. The Department recognizes our educational and research missions are strengthened by contributions from diverse perspectives. We aim to promote a fair, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.” We also wholeheartedly support the [powerful words](/news/harvard-sociology-wholeheartedly-endorses-powerful-statement-our-dean-and-colleague) written by Dean Lawrence D. Bobo about racial violence and racial justice in America.

**Standing Committee on Inclusion and Professionalism**

As part of our commitment to diversity and inclusion, the Department of Sociology established a Standing Committee on Inclusion and Professionalism (CIP) in 2020. The CIP is chaired by a tenured member of the Sociology Department faculty and includes one additional faculty member, two staff members, and two PhD students in Sociology.
