Concentration Advisors are Sociology PhD students assigned to the Houses as either a resident or non-resident tutor. They are available to talk with sophomores, juniors, and seniors about the concentration, and may release the electronic advising hold for course enrollment after having an advising conversation. If you'd like to learn more about the discipline, hear about research in the department, or have questions about Sociology courses, reach out to your Concentration Advisor to schedule an appointment.

Clayton Covington is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Sociology and Resident Tutor in Kirkland House. Broadly, his research focuses on the global political economy of humanitarian intervention. With a regional focus in the Caribbean, his current work examines LGBTQ advocacy networks and how discursive frames shape collaboration and contestation across national borders.

GeorgePatrick (George) Hutchins (he/him) is a Doctoral Student in the Department of Sociology and medical student at Harvard Medical School. He has clinical interests in general internal medicine and research interests at the intersection of culture, healthcare, and incarceration. His current projects explore how the social construction of illness is influenced and/or reshaped by carceral logics.

Evan Cliff MacKay (they/them); residential tutor in Currier house. Evan is a Doctoral Student in Sociology and Social Policy. Their research interests cover ballot referenda and direct democracy, post-incarceration, wealth inequality, and youth participation in local and state politics. Evan is a former concentrator in sociology from their time as an undergrad at Harvard College.

Rebecca Russell is the Undergraduate Advising and Program Administrator for Sociology. She oversees degree progress for all concentrators and secondaries in the Sociology department and is a First Year Advisor for Harvard College.

Yinan Wang is a G6 in Sociology. She is broadly interested in how social institutions interact to create labor market inequalities and stratifications along axes of gender, class, and race using mixed methods. Her current work explores how perceptions of mixed institutional signals shape one’s labor market outcomes.
