Queenie Zhu has won this year's ASA Sociology of Education David Lee Stevenson Award for Outstanding Graduate Student PaperZhu, a PhD Candidate in the Sociology and Social Policy Program, won for her paper titled "On Common Ground: How Spatial Layout Facilitates Schools' Power to Segregate Students." This study investigates how spatial layout and organization-level spatial planning interact to create different integration contexts and outcomes at two diverse suburban schools. This study foregrounds space as an overlooked yet powerful agentic force that regulates group dynamics and structures social relations.
